Full-time 3 year appointment, starting immediately

Salary range Lecturer B ($64,179 -76,213) per annum plus superannuation

The Centre is seeking a research fellow to make a major contribution to underwater technology research relating to the oil and gas industry. The appointee will join the Centre for Marine Science and Technology focusing on underwater technology, marine acoustics and hydrodynamics.

This appointment will be funded by The Western Australian Energy Research Alliance (WA:ERA) which combines the multi-disciplinary expertise of Curtin University of Technology, the University of Western Australia and CSIRO Petroleum . WA:ERA is focused on providing premium quality research and technology-based solutions and education services to the global energy industry.

The successful appointee will contribute to the Facilities research program in the area of subsea reliability, with an emphasis on underwater vehicles. A postgraduate research qualification or equivalent in an applied science or engineering discipline related to underwater technology is required, as is a commitment to, and achievement in, research and development in underwater technology. Experience in underwater vehicle operations and oil and gas production is highly desirable.

Selection criteria:

Essential:
1. A postgraduate research qualification or equivalent in an applied science or engineering discipline related to underwater technology.
2. Commitment to, and achievement in, research and development in underwater technology.
3. A Track record in the production of technical and research publications
4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
5. Demonstrated record of project completion
6. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
7. Ability to supervise undergraduate and post-graduate students
8. Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.

Desirable:
1. Demonstrated leadership in selected areas of marine science and technology.
2. Experience in underwater vehicles, signal processing or marine instrumentation development.
3. Track record in accessing research funding.
4. Ability to work at sea
5. An understanding of the offshore oil and gas industry, including a knowledge of the current major industry technological limitations and issues.

Benefits: salary range Lecturer B ($64,179 -76,213) per annum. The total employment costs including superannuation (SSAU) is available for repackaging through the University's remuneration packaging service.
