Peter Henley

Dr. Peter Henley is a Senior Research Fellow with the Centre for Marine Science and Technology. His main areas of interest are in underwater vehicle operations and technology and the design of appropriate operator interfaces. He is currently researching new methods of presenting information to submarine command teams and initiating the formation of a national deep-water remotely operated vehicle capability for marine science and technology research.

Peter began his career as a sea-going marine engineer before obtaining his B.Sc. in Marine Physics from the Marine Science Laboratories at University College of North Wales, Bangor , in the UK . A 20-year career in the offshore oil and gas underwater industry then followed, gaining broad experience in remotely operated vehicle operations, as well as in air, saturation and one-atmosphere hard-suit diving projects.

Peter joined CMST in 2000 as a Research Associate before commencing a Ph.D. in the design of remotely operated vehicle piloting interfaces. This was completed in 2006 and he has since concentrated on the field of cognitive systems engineering as applied to submarine command team decision support.
